The chair of the Executive Committee of the Serbian Progressive Party, Darko Glisic, said on Aug. 16 that early next year presidential and local elections should take place together with a parliamentary vote, adding that nearly 700,000 Serbs had joined the Progressives.

"Since the opposition is already bragging about its strength, let them defeat us at all levels at once, instead of having to go to the polls several times a year," Glisic said in an interview with the Happy TV.

The Progressive official said that internal party elections would begin at all levels on Sept. 1, and that the polls would give party committees an opportunity to chose people for leading party posts.

According to Glisic, a party congress is expected to take place at the end of October, celebrating the party's birthday. He also said that an enormous number of people, nearly 700,000 members of the Progressive Party, were expected to vote.
