Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu on Aug. 31 said that his country would open a consular office in Novi Pazar.

Cavusoglu, who is on an official visit to Serbia, told Belgrade daily Politika, that “we are witnessing the best period in the relations between the two countries,” adding that the ties would be further promoted by the opening of a Turkish consulate in Novi Pazar, which would make Turkey the first country to open a consular office in Novi Pazar.

“I believe that the opening of a consulate will largely contribute to the development of our relations through the strengthening of cultural and personal ties,” Cavusoglu noted.

He further said that “peace, stability and prosperity in the Balkans are very important for Turkey,” adding that “Serbia is one of the key countries for stability and peace in Southeast Europe.”

On Aug. 31, Cavusoglu is scheduled to meet with President Aleksandar Vucic, Prime Minister Ana Brnabic and his counterpart Nikola Selakovic. He is also to tour the Bajrakli Mosque in Belgrade together with Culture and Information Minister Maja Gojkovic.
