In the last 24 hours, 52 people have died of COVID-19 in Serbia, while 6,461 people were confirmed to be newly infected with the coronavirus that causes the disease.
The Ministry of Health announced on its covid19.rs website on Oct. 18 that 20,852 samples had been tested in the same time frame. Hospital care is being provided for 6,636 COVID patients, 279 of whom require assisted ventilation.
Since the beginning of the COVID-19 epidemic in Serbia, 9,157 people have died of the disease, while 1,055,296 were confirmed to have been infected with the virus out of a total of 6,020,429 samples tested.
Serbian Health Minister Zlatibor Loncar said on Oct. 18 that a session of the COVID Crisis Headquarters was planned to take place this week. He said some way must be found to break the chain of infection and to make the importance of vaccination understood, as "this problem" cannot be resolved without it.
