Epidemiologist Predrag Kon on Oct. 21 said he hailed the introduction of Covid passes, but noted that they should have been imposed earlier and that he was “unhappy,” because he did not believe that they would be enough in fighting virus spread. He added that the medical members of the Crisis Headquarters had earlier proposed more rigorous countermeasures.
“Epidemiological situation has practically developed into a disaster…The situation is very, very bad,” Kon told TV Prva.
Kon, a member of the Crisis Headquarters, further said that there was obviously no swift way to increase the vaccination rate in Serbia required for reaching herd immunity.
“We have requested that all venues be closed at 5 pm, primarily shops, shopping malls, and cafes, and that only necessary venues such as those selling food, medications and fuel remain open after this hour. We have also requested a ban on public gatherings of more than five persons,” Kon said speaking about the opinion of the medical members of the Crisis Headquarters. He added that the medical professionals had also demanded a strong vaccination campaign.
Speaking about Covid passes, Kon said it was necessary to tighten control, adding that the medical members of the Crisis Headquarters had also requested that the identity of those violating the measures be made public.
