Over the past 24 hours in Serbia 55 people died of the coronavirus bringing the death toll to 10,951, the Ministry of Health announced on Nov. 16.
A total of 3,773 people tested positive out of 18,256 samples. Another 6,289 people have been hospitalized while 267 patients are on ventilators. Since the outbreak of the epidemic 6,603,023 people have been tested of whom 1,218,423 tested positive.
Epidemiologist Branislav Tidorovic, a member of the Crisis Headquarters, said on Nov. 16 that the number of new cases was expected to jump to 5,000 a day in the next ten days.
"In 10 to 12 days we will see the effects of the extended fall vacation for elementary school and high school students, i.e. the effects of the brief break on their parents, as entire families have scrambled to spend this period in spas and mountain resorts, while the point of the vacation was to lower contacts and the number of new cases," Tiodorovic told the Kurir newspaper.
