Over the past 24 hours, 27 people have died of COVID-19, bringing the death toll since the outbreak of the epidemic to 12,621.
Out of the 13,574 samples tested 1,249 new cases have been confirmed, according to an announcement posted on the Health Ministry's covid19.rs website on Dec. 27. There are 2,051 COVID-19 patients being treated in hospitals, 84 of them on ventilators.
Since the start of the epidemic in Serbia 7,172,506 tests have been processed by laboratories, with the presence of the virus confirmed in 1,291,718 people.
In 14 cities and towns in Serbia, a coronavirus vaccine effectiveness study will be conducted on a sample of 1,200 volunteers, Ljiljana Markovic Denic, an epidemiologist from the Belgrade Faculty of Medicine, said on Dec. 27. She added that several health centers in Belgrade would also take part in the "national study" on vaccine effectiveness, and that the immune response to the vaccine after the first and second dose would be monitored.
