Number of Researchers in Serbia Jumps by more than 3,000 in 10 Years

In 2020, the EU had 1.89 million researchers, some half a million up compared to ten years earlier. In the same year, Serbia had 14,891 researchers, an increase of some 3,000 from 11,720 registered in 2011, according to official EU statistical data.

The European Statistical Office had noted that the data referred full-time researchers, EURACTIV.rs reported on Dec. 28

According to the data, most researchers in the EU, 55 percent work in the corporate sector, one third in higher education and one tenth in the governmental sector. The data also show that between 2010 and 2020, the number of researchers almost doubled in Greece, Hungary and Poland. The only EU country reporting a decrease in the number of researchers is Romania, with a drop of seven percent.
