On Feb. 17, Jeff Hovenier, the U.S. ambassador to Kosovo, wished all Kosovo denizens a happy independence day and stated that in the 14 years since Kosovo declared independence the results it has achieved are "great and miraculous."

"Kosovo today celebrates 14 years of independence -- 14 years as a sovereign country and as a reliable partner of the United States of America. Kosovo's achievements over the short 14 years are nothing short of miraculous -- a vibrant democracy, a capable economy, and the leadership that Kosovo carries across its borders. The United States of America is proud to call Kosovo a partner and friend," Hovenier wrote.

He emphasized that the U.S.-Kosovo partnership would only continue to develop stating: "As we celebrate this landmark day together, I promise you that the enduring partnership we enjoy between our two countries -- Kosovo and the United States -- will only continue to grow in the coming years. How are we going to do that? Together!"

By supporting the progress of the negotiations as mediated by the EU, Hovenier said, the U.S. wants to see Kosovo fully engaged in the region and integrated into European and Euro-Atlantic institutions.

"This means reaching a comprehensive agreement with Serbia focused on mutual recognition without sacrificing Kosovo's sovereignty, its territorial integrity or violating its Constitution," the ambassador explained, adding that, first and foremost, "it means continuing to support the development of the Kosovo Security Force into a multiethnic force, an interactive ground defense force with NATO, which is not only capable of protecting Kosovo's borders, but also as already demonstrated, contributes to shared global security missions and supports effective response to natural disasters."
