Serbian Foreign Minister Nikola Selakovic travelled to Dhaka on May 25 to discuss bilateral ties with Bangladeshi Foreign Minister Abdul Momen.
The meeting is described as “historic”, since the two states will celebrate half a century of diplomatic relations this year, and Selakovic is the first Serbian foreign minister visiting Bangladesh, the Serbian Ministry of Foreign Affairs reported.
During the visit agreements on political consultations between the two ministries were signed, as well as treaties to exempt from the existing visa regime the holders of diplomatic and official passports. Direct links between the two states’ chambers of commerce were discussed as well. Minister Selakovic said that Bangladesh was a country “with a big heart” and great potentials, which prompted Belgrade to offer scholarships to young Bangladeshis.
Minister Momen said that the two ministries would help identify the products and services that could boost trade between Serbia and Bangladesh, and encourage new agreements to improve economic cooperation.
