Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic and European Enlargement Commissioner Oliver Varhelyi toured works on building the Tirsova 2 University children's clinic in Belgrade on May 30.

Vucic said the construction would be completed by early 2025 at the latest, and touted the future institution as "first-class" and a center for treating children from all over the region.

"This project has garnered huge attention from the EU. They will gift EUR35 million so we can build this monumental hospital. That is the huge value of their support. The building will have state-of-the-art outfitting. We will use all the latest technology to treat our children in it," Vucic said.

The European commissioner said the European Union had never supported a bigger health infrastructure project and expected children in Serbia to have the best health care in Europe.

Varhelyi said this project was the only positive outcome of COVID, because health would now be valued even more highly than before.

The project investment is worth EUR117.2 million. The total value of the construction work is estimated at some EUR95 million, while remaining funds will go to equipment procurement.
