Zoran Lutovac, the president of the oppositional Democratic Party, has stated that he expects Serbia’s new Cabinet to introduce sanctions against Russia and added that President Aleksandar Vucic has been priming the public for this via the media for some time now.
“The sanctions Serbia would join make sense, foremost as an expression of [the country’s] foreign policy,” Lutovac told the June 6 edition of the Nova daily.
Asked whether he expected the new Cabinet to impose sanctions against Russia, Lutovac answered in the affirmative “providing there is no drastic change to the EU’s stance on the sanctions or toward Serbia itself.”
“Vucic has been preparing the public [for this step] via the media for some time now, although it has been slow going after so many years of campaigning on an overtly pro-Russia platform,” Lutovac concluded.
