It is unacceptable for anyone – especially officials, MPs and former police officers – to insult or threaten journalists working in the interest of the public and of the truth, the political organization Together stated on July 27.

“We call on the prosecutor’s office and [other relevant] institutions to speak out on the threats, accusations, slander and insults levied at journalists and to process every such case. We must not allow those in public office who are under suspicion of ties to organized crime, large-scale sandals or who are defending such individuals, to threaten journalists. This must not go unpunished!” Zajedno said in its press release.

The statement further asserted that independent, objective, free and professional journalists are society’s true heroes.

Vuk Cvijic

“Together offers its full support to Jelena Zoric, Vuk Cvijic and all their colleagues – courageous journalists who perform their calling honorably – and most harshly condemns the attacks by [Vladimir] Djukanovic, [Dijana] Hrkalovic and other Progressives, as well as those currently standing trial, or who will stand trial in the future,” the organization said.
