On Aug. 23, the Higher Court in Belgrade found the former deputy chief of the Department for Fighting Organized Crime (SBPOK), Goran Papic, guilty of influence peddling and sentenced him to 16 months in prison.
He was found guilty of returning an armored BMW vehicle to Marko Miljkovic, a close associate of Veljko Belivuk, on April 15, 2020, disrespecting standard procedures.
The court also decided that Papic would not be allowed to serve as a police officer for the next ten years.
The Higher Public Prosecutor’s Office’s special department for combating corruption, which had sought a four-year jail term for Papic, will appeal the ruling.
