Serbia: Routine Pride Parade
Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic’s decision to cancel the September 2022 EuroPride event is not legally binding because such a decision exceeds the president’s authority, said Marko Mihailovic, the director of Belgrade Pride.
“EuroPride can only be canceled by its organizers. To ban the event, the decision would have to come from the Ministry of Internal Affairs. [Such a] ban would be unconstitutional and detrimental to society at large, democracy and the freedom of speech and assembly,” Mihailovic stated.
He further stressed that prohibiting the event would “deal a death blow” to the rule of law in Serbia because the Serbian Constitution guarantees the freedom of movement for all.
