Education Minister Branko Ruzic has said that his Ministry’s working group for preventing and reducing violence in schools will hold its first meeting on Nov. 29, adding that the team will have to identify weaknesses and propose changes to the existing policy by Dec. 20.

“The working group will gather all relevant stakeholders: renowned experts in curbing violence, psychologists and school counselors with rich professional experience in schools and hospitals, and representatives of the Education Ministry, education trade unions, School Heads Association, and associations of parents,” Ruzic has told Belgrade daily Politika.

Ruzic also said that there was no ideal solution to the problem, but added that the team would try to find those which would reduce violence in schools.

“Measure for preventing school violence will be enhanced, while we still do not know whether stricter sanctions will be applied. It is why the working group has been set up to examine whether there is need for tightening the sanctions in certain segments which are defined under the existing legal framework,” Ruzic specified.
