The NATO-led peacekeeping force in Kosovo (KFOR) urged in a Dec. 23 statement all sides in Kosovo to refrain from “provocative demonstrations of force,” and engage themselves constructively to ensure security and freedom of movement in Kosovo though a solution based on dialogue.

KFOR said that since October its presence had been reinforced with additional troops and patrols in the north of Kosovo. “KFOR will continue to fulfil its mandate under Resolution 1244 passed in 1999 for all communites in Kosovo. Solutions must be sought through a dialogue,” the Kosovo Force said in the statement.

The NATO-led peacekeepers in Kosovo also said they were monitoring the situation in the north and possessed “full capacity, including personnel, to secure a peaceful and safe environment and the freedom of movement for all communities, anywhere in Kosovo, under its mandate according to 1999 U.N. Security Council Resolution 1244.”
