N1 Programme Director Igor Bozic said on Feb. 8 that Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic “wants absolute control over all the media,” and that the media trends coinciding with the rule of the Serbian Progressive Party could be described as “absolute ignorance of journalism as a profession.”

“Since he took over, Vucic has been focused on the media, aspiring to absolute dominance over all media outlets. That’s why we are witnessing now what has never happened before – N1 has been boycotted for eight and a half years, and no one from the ruling party would come to answer perfectly normal questions by an N1 journalist,” Bozic said.

“The state is at war with a media outlet,” he said, adding that the allocation of a fifth national broadcasting license (which his television didn’t apply for, but Nova S did) has been postponed, and that the “game of dragging things out is played by the regime, not the Electronic Media Regulating Authority (REM)”.
