Continental AG, Novi Sad (BETAPHOTO/DRAGAN GOJIC)

Continental Automotive Serbia, a subsidiary of the German automotive giant Continental AG, is opening the brand’s largest European production plant in Novi Sad on Feb. 23. An investment worth EUR140 million, the new factory is the second of its kind in the city and will employ 500 people.

Construction of the 30,000-square-meter plant began in June 2021. The company plans to achieve over EUR1 billion in exports in the first two years of operation, while projections expect this number to rise to EUR1.5 billion after year three.

The Continental brand arrived in Serbia in 2009, purchasing the Kolubara Univerzal factory in Lazarevac, where it now employs 172 workers. In 2012, the giant began operating in Subotica, where it now employs 1,350 people at ContiTech Fluid. Continental arrived in Novi Sad in 2017, opening a research and development center where 800 specialists design products for the global market, followed by a 200-employee factory in 2021.

Founded in 1871, Continental AG is currently one of the five leading auto-parts suppliers in the world and the second-largest in Europe. In 2021, the company had about 191,000 employees across 527 locations in 58 countries and achieved an annual revenue of EUR33.8 billion.
