In response to the Serbian Ministry of Health signing a donation contract with the Mozzart Foundation, the oppositional Green-Left Front announced on March 2 that allowing gambling institutions “a place” in Serbia’s healthcare system is “unacceptable.”

The Mozzart Foundation is a humanitarian organization recently founded by the Mozzart company, a large-scale gambling and sports betting operator based in Belgrade.

The Green-Left Front, a nascent party evolving from the Don’t Let Belgrade D(r)own movement, stressed that collaborating with such establishments for the sake of “charity” allows those causing problems “to whitewash their reputation under the guise of social responsibility.”

Gambling and sports betting companies are sources of addiction, the party explained, and expressed its disbelief that state officials would fail to recognize the problem with accepting donations from such organizations.

According to the Green-Left Front, “Serbia should focus on prevention and limit the influence gambling and sports betting establishments have in the public arena… [not] open the doors of the healthcare system to those causing the problem” in the first place.
