Serbian Energy Minister Dubravka Djedovic in Belgrade on May 9 met with Energy Community Secretariat Director Artur Lorkowski to discuss development of strategic documents and improvements to energy sector regulations, reforms of state energy companies and diversification of fuel supply.
The meeting also discussed the EU’s Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM). Lorkowski said that the Mechanism would have considerable influence on doing business in Serbia and the broader Western Balkan region, according to a release from the Ministry.
Speaking about criteria for obtaining an exemption to CBAM in the field of electric power, Lorkowski said that Serbia needed to integrate in the EU through integration of markets, establish a fully functioning emissions trading system by 2030 and to commit to climate neutrality by 2050.
Lorkowski also said that a regionally coordinated approach using the Energy Community framework wherever possible could lead to lowest costs and biggest benefits to Serbia and other contracting parties in the Western Balkans.
