On July 13, Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic notified Russian Ambassador in Belgrade Alexander Botsan-Kharchenko that Serbia will be requesting a session of the U.N. Security Council to inform the global public of attempts at endangering the peace and stability in the Western Balkans.
“I’ve informed Russian Federation Ambassador Botsan-Kharchenko of the political, legal and physical violence Pristina has been inflicting against Serbs in Kosovo and Metohija and said that Serbia is in a very difficult position,” Vucic posted on Instagram along with a photograph of their meeting.
For this very reason, Vucic explained, Serbia will request a U.N.S.C. meeting to “notify the entire world of the attempts made to endanger the peace and stability of the Western Balkans.”
Ambassador Botsan-Kharchenko responded that “official Moscow is abreast of all events and understands both Serbia’s position and how delicate the situation is,” Vucic’s office announced following the sit-down.
Later in the day, Vucic is set to meet with Chinese Ambassador Chen Bo.
Russia and China are both permanent members of the United Nations Security Council.
