A group of People’s Party members led by MP Miroslav Aleksic have “spread poison” and created an unhealthy atmosphere in the party in an attempt to take over leadership, the organization’s vice president, Sanda Raskovic Ivic, announced on July 19.
Speaking for the Politika daily, Raskovic Ivic said that there is still time for these internal tensions to settle, but accused the People’s Party’s dismissed executive committee president Aleksic and vice president Borislav Novakovic of trying to stage a coup in the party.
According to her, Aleksic could not run for party president from his position of executive committee chief. Therefore, he should have handed in his resignation to the post at the last meeting of either the presidency or the steering committee, which were both held in June.
