Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic said on July 21 that local governments in Serbia should hand in their best infrastructure projects as quickly as possible to obtain grants from the World Bank and the French Development Agency.

"Huge funds have been secured for all local governments, which run as high as 30 percent of municipal budgets in some instances. The representatives of local governments should demonstrate seriousness and responsibility so the funds can be used as quickly as possible for projects that benefit the people," Vucic said at an introductory conference of the Local Infrastructure and Institutional Development Project (LIID) in Serbia.

The value of the LIID project is around EUR300 million and 145 local governments will be given grants for various infrastructure projects. French Ambassador to Belgrade Pierre Cochard said the project affirmed the dynamic cooperation between Serbia and France, and France's will to move forward with Serbia's bid to join the European Union, support economic growth in Serbia and boost the quality of life in the Western Balkan country.
