The German and U.S. ambassadors in Pristina and the chief of EULEX condemned on July 26 the negative campaign on social networks against the new Serb members of the Kosovo police.
The chief of the EU’s rule of law mission in Kosovo (EULEX), Giovanni Pietro Barbano, has stated that no kind of intimidation was acceptable.
The German ambassador in Pristina, Joern Roehde, has stressed that the campaign against the policemen had to stop immediately. The U.S. ambassador in Pristina, Jeffrey Hovenier, has stated that threats to individuals who “serve the safety of all citizens of Kosovo” were unacceptable.
The police station in the north has 74 new policemen, all from non-Albanian communities. More than half – 45 are Serbs, 16 are Bosniaks, three Turks and eight members are from the Roma, Ashkali and Egyptian communities. These policemen are part of the group of 418 cadets of the Kosovo police. In November last year, around 550 Serbs left the Kosovo police in the north on the orders of the Serb Ticket.
