On Aug. 16, the League of Social Democrats of Vojvodina requested that state authorities find and punish the individuals who threatened Sofija Todorovic, the program director of the Youth Initiative for Human Rights (YIHR).
In the press release, Social Democrats’ spokesman Aleksandar Marton stated that attacks on dissenting political voices are attempts to intimidate and to silence. “Having violence dominate society is unacceptable. It is even worse when [violence] is promoted by state institutions or the media,” Marton said, stressing that individuals whose opinions differ from the mainstream are targeted daily, which is “a stark violation of the Constitution and a host of laws.”
The YIHR reported on Aug. 15 that threatening graffiti citing Todorovic’s full name appeared on the façade of the building in Belgrade’s Borca neighborhood where she resides.
