The U.S. ambassador in Kosovo, Jeffrey Hovenier, stated on Aug. 16 that his country did not support the idea about the redefinition of national borders in the Balkans, and that any attempt at doing so would be a counter-productive and destabilizing development.

During a meeting with journalists, the Klan Kosova reported, he said that the U.S. supported the territorial integrity of all countries in the Western Balkans. “The U.S. strongly supports the EU aspirations and territorial integrity of every state in the Balkans, including Kosovo,” he stated. In his words, countries of the region should focus on fulfilling the necessary criteria on the European path by intensifying regional reconciliation and good neighborly relations.

He described the claims about Kosovo not allowing the import of medicines and medical material from Serbia as misinterpretation because, as he stated, medicines and medical material are now being imported in the same way as before June 14, when the decree on banning imports from Serbia was put into effect. “We had a very clear discussion with the Health Ministry and they are unaware of a single request for the import of medicines or medical material they denied,” Hovenier said.

He urged the Kosovo government to take action that promotes the free movement of goods, instead of imposing limitations, to avoid misinterpretation.
