Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic said in New York, on Sept. 22, that he should not criticize the European Union’s representative for the Western Balkans, Miroslav Lajcak, because the key decisions in the Belgrade-Pristina dialogue were being brought in Berlin, Paris and Washington.

When asked how his meeting with Lajcak went in New York, where he was attending the 78th session of the U.N. General Assembly, Vucic said to Serbian reporters that it “just went.”

“We talked. And that’s about it. I do not know what to tell you exactly, because I cannot criticize Lajcak simply to shift the blame to someone else. He is not to be blamed, as the key decisions are being made in Berlin, Paris and Washington. It is not an easy situation,” Vucic said.

During his visit to New York, Vucic attended a reception hosted by U.S. President Joseph Biden, reaffirming his commitment to improving relations with the United States. Together with Richard Grenell, a former U.S. envoy for the Belgrade-Pristina Dialogue, the Serbian president was a guest on U.S. Newsmax TV. During the interview he warned that Kosovo Prime Minister Albin Kurti “is raising tensions,” which the U.S. and the EU “haven’t responded to strongly enough.”
