Socialist Party of Serbia MP Snezana Paunovic said on Sept. 28 that a clash between Serbs from Kosovo and local police in the village of Banjska should be a sign that repression both against the people of the southern Serbian province and official Belgrade needed to be lowered.

She told Prva TV that KFOR needed to take on its full role, which was why it was in Kosovo, but added that she did not expect this to happen.

She voiced the hope that the events in Banjska would be concluded in facts "and not assumptions that they were caused by terrorists or a criminal group." "Simply, they must understand that it is about Serbs who have been enduring their terror for 25 years. That had to culminate somewhere," Paunovic said.

One Albanian police officer and at least three Serbs were killed in a clash between Serb groups from Kosovo and police in the village of Banjska.
