Kosovo Interior Minister Xhelal Svecla has said that the goal of the Kosovo police operation closing six offices of the Postanska Stedionica Bank in the municipalities of Kosovska Mitrovica North, Leposavic, Zvecan and Zubin Potok was to establish law and order and equal services to citizens.
In a post on Facebook, Svecla said that, in the interest of establishing legality, after communication between and requests by the responsible institutions and with authorization from the prosecutor, the Kosovo police in coordination with the Tax Administration of Kosovo executed an operation in the four municipalities in northern Kosovo of inspection and closure of six units of the so-called Postanska Stedionica as an illegal Serbian financial institution in the Republic of Kosovo,
Deputy director of police for northern Kosovo Veton Elshani told KTV TV that "every conceivable criminal activity" was suspected -- from unregistered business, tax evasion, and others.
Serb Democracy president Aleksandar Arsenijevic and several others staged a symbolic protest in front of the main building of the Postanska Stedionica Bank in Mitrovica North, Kossev reported.
They spilled flour, eggs and candy bars in front of the building, and placed sacks full of bread in a parked Kosovo police vehicle to show what the people would now not be able to afford.
