Serbian Defense Minister Bratislav Gasic said on June 14 after officially visiting Kazakhstan and Azerbaijan that talks with his Kazakhstani and Azerbaijani counterparts would contribute to forging stronger ties and cooperation in the defense sector.

The Serbian Ministry of Defense quoted Gasic as saying that both states had demonstrated “strong and sincere friendship” on multiple occasions, and supported Serbia “in matters of territorial integrity” and the protection of national interests.

“During my visit to Azerbaijan, I met with the country’s defense minister and minister of the defense industry. The talks were focused on opportunities to improve cooperation and bilateral relations by strengthening military, military-economic and military-technological cooperation, and we have already outlined a large number of activities to work on by the end of the year,” Gasic said.

The defense minister also underlined that a military neutral status was Serbia’s long-term strategy, and that cooperation with foreign partners, like Kazakhstan and Azerbaijan, “in no way affects” Serbia’s position. “We will develop cooperation with all states that express their friendship and respect our national interests, and Serbia will know how to value this,” Gasic said.
