The Sloga Union warned on June 19 that Smederevo-based PKC Wiring Systems had decided to sack around 500 workers unlawfully, and to their own detriment.

“The PKC company is calling workers, pressuring them into signing mutual termination agreements providing a compensation of RSD 150,000. The plan is to get rid of as many workers as possible (our sources say around 500) without having to create a redundancy program, which they are obligated to do,” said the Sloga leader, Zeljko Veselinovic.

Veselinovic has cautioned that if they accept the offer, the workers will lose not only a severance pay, which is more generous than the amount offered by the PKC, but also a compensation from the National Employment Service to which they are entitled. The trade union recommended that the workers should refuse to sign the mutual termination agreements, describing it as a classic attempt by the PKC management to deceive its employees.

According to Sloga, the Helsinki-based company, manufacturing wiring harnesses for commercial vehicles, is known for paying low wages, the lowest in the cable manufacturing industry in Serbia, as well as for mobbing, mistreatment of workers, frequent layoffs, and especially the persecution of union representatives.
