On July 11, members of the Union of Environmental Organizations gathered before the Constitutional Court, in downtown Belgrade, over unofficial reports of an imminent vote on voiding the Cabinet’s 2022 decision that halted plans to mine Serbian lithium.
The activists are requesting an audience with the judges of the Constitutional Court so as to confirm whether or not they are indeed considering reinstating the Jadar spatial plan, which would enable the company Rio Tinto to continue its activities in the Jadar river valley.
The protest has been joined by members of opposition parties and other movements, and has blocked traffic along the intersection of King Alexander Boulevard and Kneza Milosa Street, next to the Serbian National Assembly.
