President Aleksandar Vucic on July 26 said that it was on the opposition to decide whether it would boycott the next elections or not, but stressed that he could guarantee that there would be no election fraud and was ready to enable international institutions to verify his claim.

In an interview to TV Prva, Vucic said that 10 of 15 observers deployed to polling stations were opposition representatives and that ballot tampering was not possible either at the polls or at later stages.

“As for the election boycott, it is their call. We encourage a review of Serbia’s electoral roll... There is no possibility of voter fraud occurring...This I will fully guarantee, but we will also invite international organizations to finally put an end to this allegation,” Vucic said.

Commenting on the opposition complaints about the media situation in Serbia, Vucic said it was the opposition’s main complaint, noting that they did not object pro-opposition media outlets’ 24/7 campaign against him.

“While they campaign against me 24/7, they believe that all other media outlets with different editorial policies should be shut down and lynched. That is called democratic behavior,” Vucic noted, adding that pro-government media outlets existed, but were not his.

Vucic further said that the authorities should look at causes of dissatisfaction with the middle and upper-middle classes and find ways to address such issues.

“Particularly the issues concerning young people. It is why a new investment cycle will be designed with due regard to young people, not only in terms of housing development, but also job creation and not only in factories with lowest monthly pays, but also in robotics and the digital industry,” he said.
