The Kosovo assembly leadership on Aug. 5 decided to hold an extraordinary session on Aug. 22 to disband, Democratic League of Kosovo whip Avdulah Hoti said.
He said that at the same session, MPs would adopt agreements between Kosovo and the EU on IPA funds, under which EUR120 million would be provided in assistance to Kosovo.
Social Democratic Initiative whip Bilal Sherifi said that the extraordinary session had been scheduled for Aug. 22 in line with a recommendation of the EU to allow for the necessary preparations and timely deployment of election observers.
The Aug. 5 session was called by assembly speaker Kadri Veseli, who has earlier refused Kosovo President Hashim Thaci’s request seeking that the coalition who had claimed victory in the previous vote should nominate a candidate to take over premiership.
The Kosovo president shall call early general elections within 30 to 45 days from the assembly dissolution.
