Serbian Prime Minister Ana Brnabic said on Jan. 16, the second anniversary of Serbia, Democracy, Justice  Civic Initiative leader Oliver Ivanovic’s assassination, that the main message is that Serbia will not stop searching for those who ordered and committed this crime, until the “the real [perpetrators are found], and not those who fit into someone else’s story.”

She told the RTS pubic service that Belgrade is carrying out the investigation on its own, without any support from Pristina or international factors in Kosovo, first and foremost EULEX, adding that UNMIK cannot do much as “it has limited powers.”

Brnabic also said that the Serbian authorities have “ some information” which she cannot disclose for fear that it would jeopardize certain people and the investigation, adding that the situation in Kosovo is such that not even murders of Special Court’s protected witnesses can be prevented.

Aleksandar Ivanovic, a nephew of the murdered Kosovo Serb politician, said for the NIN weekly that he firmly believes that surveillance cameras’ footage would help answer many questions, such as if the assassins were Serbs or Albanians, and who helped them enter and then leave Kosovska Mitrovica.

Ivanovic was killed in front of the Initiative’s office, by shots fired from a moving car.

At the beginning of December 2019, the Special Prosecutor’s Office of Kosovo indicted six individuals accused of involvement in Ivanovic’s murder, and issued an international warrant for the arrest of Milan Radoicic and Zvoko Veselinovic, who are accused of leading a criminal group.

Ivanovic was buried in the New Cemetery in Belgrade.
