Commenting on the news that Sabac Mayor Nebojsa Zelenovic will run in the upcoming local elections and that Paracin Mayor Sasa Paunovic is close to deciding to run, sociologist Vesna Pesic has described the current situation as absurd as “we should be throwing stones at the only two men, Zelenovic and Paunovic, who have defeated Aleksandar Vucic,” TV Sabac reported on Feb. 25.
Pesic also said that this situation “ is not logical at all,” describing the elections in these two towns “as the only open battles.”
“We should turn to the two men who have defeated Vucic, this situation is not logical to me. If the residents of Sabac want to defend their city, they should mobilize now. We have these two towns to defend, because they have defeated Vucic and because they live a normal life,” Pesic said, explaining that running in the local elections in Sabac “would not interfere into the boycott of the parliamentary elections nor would it disturb the statistics of the announced boycott.”
“For what higher cause or who is bothered with the fact that the two men who have defeated Vucic will run in the elections? Further, I have to stress that they are taking a big risk. They are putting their political careers at risk and I am afraid that Vucic will pounce on them and employ all his powers to topple them and win it all,” Pesic noted.
