The Montenegrin Montenegro Airlines national air carrier has been given EUR25m in aid from the state several days after legislative elections in the country on Aug. 30.
This is visible on the Ministry of Finance’s analytical card on payments from current reserves in the period between Aug. 23-29, Vijesti has reported and said that the money was channeled to MA on Aug. 25.
The payment marked the start of a special Law on investing and consolidating the state Montenegro Airlines air carrier, even though, Vijesti said, that the Agency for Protecting Competition had not yet weighed in on the legality of the state’s support for the national air carrier, based on a special law.
A law on allocating EUR155m to bail out Montenegro Airlines again was adopted at the end of last year, however, it did not receive consent that it was in line with EU rules on state aid.
The Agency for Protecting Competition has released a statement saying that it received incomplete material for passing a decision on whether the lex specialis for MA was in harmony with regulations on state aid.
