Serbian Minister of Trade Tomislav Momirovic said on April 10 that after Germany, China was Serbia’s main economic partner, adding that the Serbian exports to China reached $1.2 billion last year, and that the plan was to expand bilateral trade.

“China is Serbia’s second most important economic partner, after Germany – the largest and most powerful economy in the European Union. China’s growth over the past ten years has been incredible though,” Momirovic said in an interview with the Serbian Broadcasting Corporation (RTS), adding that back in 2012, Serbia’s exports to China amounted to a mere six million dollars.

The minister emphasized that the engines behind Serbia’s growth were the RTB Bor mines and Zelezara Smederevo steel mill, taken over by Chinese companies, recalling that in collaboration with Chinese partners highways and the Belgrade-Novi Sad had been built as well.
