Boris Bratina (BETAPHOTO/Milos Miskov)
Boris Bratina, the country’s new minister of information and telecommunications, is another member of the new cabinet whose appointment has sparked strong reactions among Serbian democracy-oriented public. The reason why is that Bratina is not known for any expertise in the area of communications and media, but rather for his far-right views, anti-European rhetoric, the burning of the European Union’s flag, and advocacy for banning the Pride Parade, which he referred to as a "procession of the sick." In the eyes of the pro-opposition public, the appointment is a signal that Aleksandar Vucic’s government has chosen to continue to erode media freedoms and step up pressures on independent media.
