Over the past 24 hours 4,080 people out of 16,022 tested were positive for the coronavirus while 313 patients are on ventilators in hospitals and 49 people died.

A Dec. 22 post on the Serbian Ministry of Health's website said that 9,651 people were hospitalized while the death toll is 2,782. A total of 307,827 people have caught the disease since its outbreak.

Immunologist Srdja Jankovic said on Dec. 22 that the medical part of the Crisis Headquarters believed that the country was not yet ready for a loosening of restrictions and that the working hours of certain venues were extended at the request of the Serbian Chamber of Commerce and Belgrade Deputy Mayor Goran Vesic.

Commenting on the appearance of a new coronavirus variant in Great Britain Jankovic said that the medical part of the Crisis Headquarters had requested that flights from that country be suspended, while Serbian Prime Minister said that Serbia's international obligations also needed to be reexamined.
