Belgrade Security Conference Starts on Oct. 27

The Belgrade Security Conference “Authoritarianism as a Cause of War and a Duty to Resist” begins in the Serbian capital, on Oct. 27, to discuss the war in Ukraine, the future of the European Union and the Western Balkans and the challenges of democracy.

The two-day conference will include 16 panel debates, involving more than 80 panelists from more than 20 states. They will discuss the war in Ukraine, the future of the Union, cooperation between the Western Balkans, the fight for democracy, cyber security, energy dependence, the fight against organized crime and misinformation.

Head of the EU Delegation to Serbia Emanuele Giaufret and a vice-president of the European Commission, Vera Yurova, will address the participants on the first day, together with this year’s Nobel Peace Prize laureates, Uladzimir Vialichkin, a representative of Human Rights Center “Viasna” of Belarus, and Anastasia Garina, the executive director of Russia’s Memorial organization.

The panelists will also include Montenegrin Minister for European Affairs Jovana Marovic, Kosovo’s deputy prime minister, Besnik Bislimi, and European Commissioner for Human Rights Dunja Mijatovic.
