Russian Ambassador to Belgrade Alexander Botsan-Kharchenko has said that the protests in Serbia could intensify and become violent during the upcoming New Year and Christmas holidays.

"The protests are not done. They will continue. The New Year and Christmas holidays are a very dangerous period," Botsan-Kharchenko told Russian media late on Dec. 28.

According to him, that situation "can be used to intensify the protests and return to violence."

Botsan-Kharchenko told Izvestia TV that the situation in Serbia was very fragile, but nevertheless the authorities had it "under control."
