Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic met on Jan. 11 with the U.S. ambassador in Belgrade, Christopher Hill, and discussed the further advancement of Serbian-U.S. relations and economic ties, and other subjects.

Vucic and Hill also discussed Serbia’s international position, the situation in Kosovo, the resumption of the dialogue with Pristina and the current geopolitical events, stated the office of the Serbian president. Hill informed Vucic about the U.S. having decided to accept Pristina’s request for acquiring Javelin anti-tank missile systems, adding that the Department of State would forward the request to Congress and thus officially initiate the procedure, the statement reads.

According to the statement, Vucic said that this information was “a great disappointment for Serbia,” but that Belgrade, together with the U.S., would “work on the preservation of Serbian-U.S. relations.” “It is of utmost importance for us that peace in the region is not undermined and Serbia will continue to act responsibly and contribute to stability in the Balkans,” Vucic stated.
