Serbia Procures Russian Fighter Jets and Tanks: EUR300 Million for Weapons and Equipment

The FGM-148 Javelin anti-tank system, the sale of which to Kosovo has been green-lighted by the U.S. Department of State, has a range of between 65 meters and four kilometers, while the tandem-charge warhead which penetrates the armor of all modern tanks and armored vehicles, hits the target with a top-down attack, where the armor is thinnest.

According to the Balkan Security Network website, by procuring the Javelin system, Pristina continues to strengthen its anti-tank capabilities, which began in 2023 with the procurement of Turkish OMTAS missiles.

According to the U.S. Defense Security Cooperation Agency (DSCA), in a package worth USD75 million the Kosovo government expressed the intent to buy 246 Javelin FGM-148F missiles, 24 Light Weight Command Launch Units, training equipment for basic skills, training equipment for outdoor use, missile simulators, instructor stations, and battery cooling units.

The Javelin system has been intensively used in the war in Ukraine, where the country's armed forces have managed to destroy dozens of Russian armored vehicles with these anti-tank missiles.

The quantity of the missiles requested by the authorities in Pristina considerably exceeds the framework of previous orders, given the size of the Kosovo Security Force.
