On Jan. 24, Johns Hopkins University professor Daniel Serwer told N1 TV that western governments, the European Union and the United States of America do not see a viable political alternative to Serbia’s current regime.

“This is very sad, because there is an alternative in Belgrade, were the elections to be repeated under strict supervision. The West is choosing to turn a blind eye [to this],” said Serwer, who is a senior fellow at the Foreign Policy Institute of the Johns Hopkins School of Advanced International Studies.

According to him, the EU and Washington are deliberately ignoring the regime’s Dec. 17 electoral fraud because they are counting on Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic “to surrender Kosovo.”

“I assume they’re counting on Vucic to deliver a few things, as was the agreement on Kosovo license plates. They’re prepared to turn a blind eye to the grievous violations of the democratic process and in return are getting Vucic’s small steps forward,” Serwer concluded.
