Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic said in a Jan. 29 meeting with European Union special representative Miroslav Lajcak that the formation of the Community of Serb Municipalities was necessary and asked that local elections in northern Kosovo be held urgently.

"I pointed out the necessity of forming the Community of Serb Municipalities and holding local elections in northern Kosovo and Metohija as urgently as possible, and asked for the EU's support in stopping further provocations coming from Pristina," Vucic said in an Instagram post.

He underscored that Serbia was ready to meet its obligations in accordance with agreements issuing from international law and while abiding by the Constitution of Serbia and the U.N. Charter.

Petar Petkovic, director of the Serbian government's Office for Kosovo and Metohija, told a news conference that Vucic had told Lajcak that the purpose of eliminating the dinar in Kosovo was to end the dialogue between Serbia and Kosovo and that it was necessary for Pristina to stop "executing daily new escalatory moves geared toward undercutting the lives of Serbs in Kosovo and Metohija."

Miroslav Lajcak the European Union special representatives for the Western Balkans, announced he and Vucic had discussed the state of the Belgrade-Pristina dialogue and next steps.

"In our discussion, we focused on the strategic outlook for 2024, took stock on the state of play in the Dialogue and spoke about the next steps in the normalization of relations with Kosovo," Lajcak wrote in a post on the X social media platform.
