KFOR Commander Major General Ozkan Ulutas on March 13 said that after the shooting in the settlement of Banjska, North Kosovo, last September, the situation “has been peaceful, but unstable.”

“All in all, the situation is peaceful, but still unstable. We have been closely monitoring all important security events in the region as being aware of the situation is crucial for us,” Ulutas said in an interview with Pristina news agency Telegrafi.com.

Asked whether the Banjska scenario could be repeated, Commander Ulutas said that after the Banjska events the situation in the field had been tense. The international community and KFOR, he added, remained on the alert taking into account complex dynamic and “the potential for further unrests, particularly in North Kosovo.”

“Our goal is to prevent violence from repeating and help in creating conditions which would foster the dialogue and normalization of relations between Pristina and Belgrade. KFOR’s daily activities aim to create a necessary security framework for to enable the EU-brokered dialogue to move forward,” Ulutas said. He added that KFOR had been maintaining regular and transparent communication with all international and regional stakeholders, noting that promotion of trust-based communication and coordination had been KFOR’s priority.
