Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic said in Belgrade on April 14 that, due to the "geopolitical whirlwind" in the world, even overinvesting in protecting Serbia's sovereignty was needed.

Vucic told a ceremony on Cobra Military Police Special Squad Day at the Vasa Carapic barracks that Serbia was under greater pressure than ever today, from those who, he said, wanted to break up its territory to those who wanted to offload their guilt for their own mistakes towards Serbia to justify themselves before someone else.

Vucic announced that, if the U.N. General Assembly adopted a resolution on genocide in Srebrenica, Serbia would post its nomination on the same day for becoming a non-permanent member of the U.N. Security Council. Vucic said that if it did post its candidacy Serbia would "easily beat the two NATO members from Eastern Europe" that had announced bids to become non-permanent members of the Security Council.

He said that Vuk Jeremic, until recently president of the People's Party, would act as special representative and deliver his letter to the U.N. General Assembly chairman. He reiterated that Serbia would follow the international norms of public law.
