Red alert would remain in place for some time in Serbia, while all security units would continue to be engaged on the crackdown on extremist organizations, Serbian Prime Minister Milos Vucevic said on July 2.

“The police and the Security Information Agency, in coordination with the relevant Prosecutor’s Office, continue to take actions against terrorist cells of extremist religious organizations which abuse religion for their extremist political and terrorist goals,” Vucevic told TV Blic.

He stressed that these actions were not targeted against any ethnic or religious group, stressing that followers of Islam should not feel endangered.

Outside the Israeli Embassy in Belgrade on June 29, gendarme with initials J.M. (34) was hit in the neck by an arrow from a crossbow fired by a member of the Wahhabi movement, who was later shot dead.

The gendarme has undergone a surgery and is not in life-threatening condition.
