The New Democratic Party of Serbia supported on Oct. 2 the protests launched by Serbia’s education trade unions, appealing to the Government of Serbia to provide sufficient allocations for the sector under the 2025 Budget Act.

The opposition party said in a press release that the Government should secure enough funds not only for salaries, but also for repairs in education facilities and the construction of affordable apartments for young teachers.

“We are supporting the educators’ demands, as well as their protests organized by the four representative trade unions, as they can no longer cope with their poor financial status, disregarded agreements and the collapse of the education system,” the party was explicit in the release.

“While billions are squandered on useless projects steeped in corruption, the excuse that there’s no money for teachers seems quite lame, disregarding a Protocol the government had signed earlier, promising the starting salary in the education sector to reach the Serbian average salary,” the New Democratic Party of Serbia said, joining other opposition parties that have supported the teachers’ protests.
